After giving careful thought to it, I have discovered a few crucial elements for the selection and adjustment of materials.

Firstly, according to Richards and Rodgers (2014), it is stated that teachers need to understand their students. They must take into account the age, language level, and learning preferences of the students before assigning any content. Teachers could pick materials that challenge students suitably and fill up knowledge gaps by analysing their strengths and weaknesses. For example, to paraphrase or add more explanations to complicated materials to make them easier to understand or to challenge more experienced students, teachers could add more tasks or critical thinking questions to the content.

Secondly, the focus of language instruction is on specific abilities such as speaking, writing, listening, and reading. When incorporating outside resources, teachers should give priority to these skills and objectives (American English, n.d.). For instance, considering and choosing materials for a lesson might not be the best option if the materials are readily adjusted to the setting and size of the class but the lesson's target skill is not well-suited to the material.

Lastly, teachers could take into account the ages and interests of the students while customizing the content. Teachers should think about whether the content will be engaging for the target age group, whether it can be easily adapted, and if it can be easily adapted without requiring extensive research (American English, n.d.). As an example, it might be difficult to adapt a political news article to attract younger students' attention. Likewise, it can be viewed as being overly simple or even offensive to modify a children's book for use with adult learners.

To sum up, deciding on and adapting appropriate materials to use in teaching requires careful consideration of student interest, learning objectives, and the potential for engagement and motivation; therefore, teaching materials enhance students’ learning experience and help students to look forward to learning.
